The Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC) recognizes the critical role the Alzheimer Society Research Program (ASRP) plays in the Canadian research community, and we know how much the landscape has changed since the program launched in 1989. With this in mind, ASC will be launching a strategic review of the Alzheimer Society Research Program (ASRP).

The Alzheimer Society of Canada, together with our partners, has an opportunity to renew its research strategy to ensure its investments continue to generate the greatest possible impact for people living with dementia. The review will include a consultation process and is designed to ensure the ASRP will continue to meet the needs of the communities it serves for decades to come.

While the review is underway, a call for new applications to the ASRP will be temporarily paused. Existing funding commitments, including $4.1M in new ASRP funding announced in 2026, along with previous years’ funding commitments, will continue.

There are key elements of the ASRP that will not change:

  • It will remain fully dedicated to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, maintaining its rigorous scientific peer review process and continuing to engage citizen reviewers as part of this process.
  • It will maintain its focus on Canadian researchers and we will look to grow partnerships with co-funders to ensure we can support as many applications as possible.

This strategic review is not a step back from our commitment - it's an investment in building a stronger ASRP that best supports the ongoing and future needs of our communities.

We will continue to share updates as the process unfolds, including opportunities for community participation in the consultation process.
