COMMUNITY COLOURING AND COOKBOOK

Dishes and Designs for Dementia is a heartfelt community project created by submissions from caring and creative supporters in Windsor, Essex County and beyond. This one-of-a-kind colouring book and cookbook brings together the comforting power of food and the joyful expression of art to support individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.

This special publication is more than just pages of delicious recipes and beautiful illustrations. It’s a community effort to raise awareness, spark joy, and provide meaningful support for the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County. From cherished family and shared dishes to delightful drawings of nature, pets, local landmarks, and moments of kindness. Each submission reflects the love and spirit of our region and more.

We’ve welcomed contributions from local artists, staff, clients, caregivers, students, families, amateur cooks, and community supporters of all ages. Every recipe and drawing in this book tell a story of memory, creativity, comfort, and connection. Whether you're colouring with a loved one or cooking up a comforting meal, our hope is that this book inspires shared experiences and warm conversations.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their artwork and recipes.

Your creativity and compassion are helping spread awareness for the cause, with a vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Together, we hope to nourish your hearts and minds, one dish and design at a time.

We’d like to thank all of our contributors from Windsor-Essex and beyond:

Volunteer

The number of Ontarians with dementia is expected to increase by 40% in the next decade. The human costs and the costs to our health-care system will be enormous. We really could not do what we do to support people with dementia, and raise money to find a cure, without volunteers.

Getting a day off to take a break to rest and relax is a common luxury for many people. For families who are living with dementia there is no day off from dementia. But with the help from their community, families living with dementia can get a much needed break.
