U-First!® train-the-trainer program
The U-First!® train-the-trainer program helps long-term care homes build internal capacity by training staff to deliver the U-First!® workshop directly to their teams as certified U-First!® Community Facilitators.
Applications are now open for the November 2026 training.

Please ensure you discuss your interest with your employer and can meet the delivery requirements before applying. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
When and where is the U-First! Train-the-Trainer facilitator training?
When: November 3 to 5, 2026, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (3 days)
- Day 1: Art of Facilitation course (part one)
- Day 2: Art of Facilitation course (part two)
- Day 3: U-First!® Facilitator Training workshop
Location: Georgian Court Hotel, 773 Beatty Street, Vancouver
Travel costs are reimbursed in accordance with expense guidelines.
Eligibility
Participants must:
- Be employed by a publicly funded long-term care home or a health authority.
- Be in a role related to the care and support for people living with dementia, such as a Clinical Nurse Educator, Health-Care Assistant, Education Coordinator, or similar.
- Commit to delivering a minimum of two U-First!® workshops per year within their organization (minimum 10 participants), until September 2027.

What are the benefits of becoming a U-First!® Community Facilitator?
- Enhanced organizational capacity: Staff trained as U-First!® facilitators can deliver workshops within their long-term care organization or health authority, expanding access to dementia education and embedding U-First!® into regular onboarding and professional development.
- Ongoing support: Trained facilitators receive continuous mentorship from U-First!® Master Trainers until September 2027, helping to build facilitator confidence and support high-quality training delivery.
- Honorarium: An organizational honorarium of $275 per workshop will be provided to help offset staff time and related expenses for each workshop delivered. U-First!® registration costs ($80 per participant) will continue to be covered by the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon until the end of the funded term (until September 2027) through funding provided by the BC Ministry of Health.
- Leadership development: The program offers professional growth opportunities for staff, with the costs to become a U-First!® facilitator (course fees, travel) covered through program funding.
