Prime Minister - The Time to Act is NOW
This March, Prime Minister Stephen Harper heard from thousands of Canadians coast to coast, raising awareness about the need for a national dementia strategy.
Alzheimer Advocates were asked to send postcards – either through the mail or by using the Alzheimer Society's on-line tool – to the Prime Minister's office throughout the month of March. The e-postcards were also copied to the Minister of Health, as well as the individual's MP.
Results from the campaign were exciting, with more than 2,160 postcards e-mailed to the Prime Minister's office, and as many as 40,000 print postcards distributed across the country for advocates to mail.
"Canadian Alzheimer Advocates raised their voice loud and clear to the federal government, asking Prime Minister Stephen Harper to address this growing health care issue now, while there is still time," says Scott Dudgeon, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
The voice of our advocates couldn't have been heard at a better time, as the Alzheimer Society continues to push forward with its All Party Caucus on Dementia, and its request of the Honourable Leona Agglukaq, Minister of Health, to host a National Summit on Dementia.
Please continue writing your MP to tell them about the importance of making dementia a health care priority through the support of these initiatives.
