Alzheimer Society meets with Governor General
On January 31st 2008, Ray Congdon (Alzheimer Society of Canada President), Diane Ganong (Alzheimer Society of Canada Chair, Public Policy committee) and Scott Dudgeon (Alzheimer Society of Canada CEO) met with Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor-General of Canada and patron of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Her Excellency, whose mother is currently living with Alzheimer's disease, spoke of her difficulties in obtaining both appropriate help for her mother, as well as support for herself in her role of caregiver.
"We spoke of how important it is for people with the Governor-General's prominence to talk about the cause," says Dudgeon. "We also updated her on both current trends in dementia research, and our efforts to elevate dementia as a national health priority."
Mme. Jean also spoke of the role of stigma in making it difficult to seek and get help, and of how important the Alzheimer Society has been to her and to other Canadians dealing with the difficulty of having a family member with dementia.
