Put Your Mind to It

We all have a reason to care. Within a generation, the number of those with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia will more than double. Our families and our health care system will feel the strain. The time to act is now.

While the Alzheimer Society is working hard to represent the hundreds of thousands of people touched by this disease, we can not do it alone.

We need your help. Ask this country's federal parliamentarians to make dementia a national health care priority through the development of a Canadian Dementia Management Strategy.

Rising Tide

The Alzheimer Society has released sobering new statistics on the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Canada, statistics that predict an alarming increase of dementia over the next generation.

According to the first data released from Rising Tide: The Impact of Dementia on Canadian Society, there are currently about half a million Canadians living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, a number that is expected to increase to between 1 and 1.3 million within a generation (25 years). In fact, within just five years there could be as many as 250,000 new cases of dementia in Canada.

The Alzheimer Society believes that research remains the key to finding a cure, and that a significant investment in basic and clinical science is essential if we are to eradicate dementia. At the same time, the hundreds of thousands living with the disease today deserve the highest quality of life. To this end, we believe that there must be better support, care and treatment for people living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.

How You Can Make a Difference

As someone touched by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, you need to ensure that your local Member of Parliament understands the devastating personal effects of this disease.

There are many ways to make your voice heard, including:
