A
diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia gives
rise to a number of difficult ethical issues for people
with the disease, their families, care providers and researchers.
You
will find information on ethical issues on this website
to help you and your family make difficult decisions. Making
decisions is best accomplished when there is open dialogue
between you, your family members and health-care professionals.
Individual and family values, culture and religion must
be factored into every choice.
Some
of the ethical issues discussed also have legal implications;
for example, the person who makes decisions when someone
is no longer able to make their own decisions. Please talk
to your local Alzheimer Society
about the laws relating to decision making in your province.
