Focus ON dementia

Released March 2011

This report highlights the need to focus on dementia and how it impacts on every facet of our health system. The Alzheimer Society of Ontario recommends five specific and concrete actions that build on the government solutions already embedded into Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care and 2012 budget. They are:

  • Invest in self directed care by giving funding directly to families
  • Improve access to primary care, diagnosis of cognitive impairment and support of the First Link® program across Ontario
  • Improve training for the dementia workforce
  • Focus Care Coordinators on high-risk seniors with dementia
  • Promote brain health across the lifespan, including self-management for people with dementia
