Research

Research moves us forward. The Alzheimer Society's research scientists work on vital studies about dementia. And the Alzheimer Society Research Program offers funding to innovative researchers nationally. Your support will get us closer to life-altering treatments and better care for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

Group of researchers.

Research is getting us closer every day to finding the cause and cures for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as new and effective approaches to improving care and quality of life for those living with dementia.

Finding better treatments will benefit all Canadians by improving the lives of all who are touched by dementia, reducing the growing burden on our health care system, and helping to create a better future for the next generation.

The Alzheimer Society of Canada's own research scientists work on vital studies, reports and projects for national dementia forecasting and guidelines.

The Alzheimer Society Research Program funds millions of dollars of dementia research annually to some of the brightest minds in the field.

The Landmark Study

The Alzheimer Society of Canada's Landmark Study uses data modelling to forecast the nation's dementia future. The study data is being analyzed in three reports. The first report, from 2022, looked at overall dementia numbers. The second report, released in 2024, looks at dementia across demographic groups. The third report, in 2025, will look at the economic impacts of dementia.
