As the first course in the First Link® Learning Series, this program helps people recently diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment or dementia and their family and friends to understand the diagnosis and the changes they are starting to experience. Offered once a week in two-hour sessions for four weeks, the series provides a comfortable setting to learn about dementia, share in discussion, ask questions, and connect with others beginning the journey. Topics covered during this course include:
• What is dementia? What is Mild Cognitive Impairment?
• How the disease is affecting you and your brain
• How you can maximize your abilities
• Planning for the future
• Support options
First Steps is offered throughout the county at various times of the year.
All participants are asked to attend this series before coming to our ongoing support groups.
