Alzheimer Walk to Raise Awareness and Funds Set For January 31st

November 25, 2014, Windsor, Ontario. The Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County has announced that the indoor 2015 Walk for Memories is taking place on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 9:30 am at Devonshire Mall.

The annual indoor walk helps raise public awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s education, support, and services in the community.

“As the number of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias increases, so does the demand for dementia education, support, and services,” says Sally Bennett Olczak, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County.

The need to raise public awareness of the disease is also great. Myths, misconceptions, and stigma around dementia prevent people from getting a diagnosis, or reaching out to receive support when they are diagnosed.

When the diagnosis is made early, persons with dementia can live independently longer. Families are also better able to provide home care for as long as possible.

Also, the sixth Healthy Mind Expo will take place at the same time as the 2015 Walk for Memories. This means Walk participants can learn about products and services for a healthy mind and body. The Expo will help the public become Alzheimer-savvy. They will discover the warning signs of dementia as well as steps to reduce their risk of developing the disease.

Interested participants can register for the Walk at www.AlzheimerWindsor.com/wfm
