I have dementia
A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia can be a difficult and overwhelming experience for you, leading to feelings such as fear, sadness, anger, embarrassment and disbelief. At the same time, you might feel relieved when you receive the diagnosis because it explains your symptoms.
While each person will experience dementia in his or her own way, it is important to remember that it is the disease causing your changes. They are not happening because of anything that you have or have not done.
You may also feel nervous about the future. It is normal for you and your family to have many mixed emotions. Many people are concerned about how the changes will affect them, how they will plan for the future and get the help and information they need.
The Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay is here to provide information and support as you plan for yourself and your family.
