North Simcoe Muskoka Behavioural Support System

The purpose of the North Simcoe Muskoka Behavioural Support System (NSM BSS) Mobile Support Team is to enhance the health care of seniors, their families, and caregivers who live and cope with responsive behaviours associated with dementia, mental illness, addictions, and other neurological conditions.  The NSM BSS Mobile Support Team aims to actively support the person/caregiver and front-line staff.  The Mobile Support Team works alongside the person/caregiver and front-line staff to collaborate in creating a care plan that is respectful, relevant, and successful in managing responsive behaviours.

The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County employs three professionals who form part of the Mobile Support Team in the community.  They work alongside three Integrated Behavioural Support Workers from Care Partners.  Together they provide much-needed care for residents needing behavioural supports in the North Simcoe Muskoka region.

Donna Gordon is a Social Worker serving the Orillia, Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville areas.  “I find this to be a particularly rewarding job because of the variety of supports that we can put in place to prevent individuals from having to leave their homes any earlier than they have to” says Gordon.  Facing these challenges with her father with dementia and now being able to support a family through this journey gives her a broad understanding of their needs during the progression of this disease.

Jenny Keresztesi works as part of the Mobile Support Team in the Midland, Penetanguishene and Collingwood areas.  Her background is in music and Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapists are trained in the art of occupation, meaning the activities we need, want, and love to do.  Jenny is passionate about helping people reconnect with meaningful activities and their inner resilience.  Her inspiration for working with seniors comes from learning to cook, laugh, and sing from her grandparents, Babaman and Babalady.

Stephanie Saunders is a Social Worker on the team serving Barrie/Innisfil and area.  She has a background in gerontology and recreation.  Stephanie has spent almost 10 years working with seniors and their caregivers in a variety of settings including senior’s recreation centers, long-term care homes, adult day programs and the last five years with the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County.  She enjoys working with others to help them reach their goals and believes that she is extremely lucky to work with such passionate and dedicated folks at the Alzheimer Society and as part of the Mobile Support Team.
