Alzheimer Society of Oxford 26th Annual Golf Tournament: Saying Goodbye to our Golf Tournament
This year marked the 26th and final Annual Alzheimer Society of Oxford Golf Tournament. The generosity of our major sponsor, Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Homes, along with other sponsors, donors, volunteers and golfers has made this a special event for our Society culminating in a net profit of $10,550 on Monday, June 13th. The long-term support of our golf tournament has helped us offer programs and services to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their families, friends and caregivers here in Oxford County.
The golf tournament has been a fun and successful event that has united workplaces, companies, friends and families. This course’s conditions and the cool weather made this year’s tournament a very enjoyable day. Golfers had the opportunity to bid on over 28 silent auction items donated by local businesses and individuals and purchase raffle tickets on a Rustic 6’ Custom Home Bar donated by Coops Construction and valued at $2500. We are pleased to announce Carlos Reyes was the raffle winner of the Custom Home Bar and Massimo Iacurti the 50/50 draw winner for $275.00.
Guest speaker Govan Rowlands, event golfer and guest speaker, shared with us the impact the Mild Cognitive Impairment program and the inaugural ROPES Alumni Group has had on him.
"Thanks to the Alzheimer Society of Oxford, I’ve learned not only how to cope, but to thrive, with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). I have picked up some strategies to help manage the MCI and with those coping techniques, the Society has helped me reclaim my life. I do my own shopping and maintain an active social life. I even walk 18 holes of golf a few times a week.”
The Alzheimer Society of Oxford is so thankful to have individuals and companies in the community that have been dedicated to supporting the Annual Golf Tournament for many years. Shelley Green, Executive Director announced “after much deliberation, the organization has decided to conclude the Annual Alzheimer Society of Oxford Golf Tournament after 26 tournaments.” We will be focusing our efforts on our other fundraising events, Coffee Break® and the Walk for Alzheimer’s as well as other means of fundraising.
Thank you again, to those who were a part of making this a fun and successful event for 25 years and provided, “Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow…®” to those we serve in Oxford!
