Coffee Break® is about community. It’s a way for us to connect with the local population and a way for you to show your support for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. By coming together to share a cup of coffee (or whatever else you choose to do!) we can help combat the social isolation that affects so many of those who live with dementia.

What is Coffee Break®?
Coffee Break® is one of the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce’s longest running and most successful fundraisers. For twenty-one straight years it has been helping us to raise awareness, combat social isolation, and fund local programs.
It is a non-traditional event in that it takes place in many places, over many days, in different ways. Coffee Break® is our invitation for your help in raising funds and raising awareness.
We offer every host a Free Coffee Break® kit that will provide you with everything to host a traditional Coffee Break® event.
Who can do it?
ANYONE can take part! Past hosts have included: private individuals, large factories, small businesses, schools, hospitals, churches, and many, many, more.
Whether you’re thinking of a large or small event by taking part you’re helping to raise awareness and create a dementia friendly community.
Why should I do it?
Each year the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce is required to raise 40% of its yearly budget to provide our current level of service. Those funds support incredible local programs like The Memory Cafe and Art Therapy, but most importantly they allow us to offer individualized counselling services and support to local people all across Grey and Bruce Counties.
When is Coffee Break®?
Traditionally, Coffee Break® events are held in September and October. However, those times don’t work for everyone.
Each year many of our hosts hold events in August to engage local tourists and cottagers – others cannot participate until November or January. While some timelines must be observed the nature of the event allows it to be flexible. If you’re thinking about a non-traditional event date please let one of our staff know in advance.
How should I do it?
We maintain that there’s no wrong way to do a Coffee Break®, but some have been more popular than others:
- Bake Sake: Coffee and baking are a perfect pair. Sell treats or just put out coin boxes as everyone will appreciate the goodies.
- Cut Outs – Sell Coffee Break® cut-outs and display them on a wall or in a window for everyone to see!
- 4K4 Memories: Last year, a pair of our hosts put on a 4 km race as their Coffee Break® event raising a generous amount of money.
