Congratulations to John Mann on his appointment to the Order of British Columbia
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. would like to congratulate Spirit of the West founding member, John Mann, for his appointment yesterday to the Order of British Columbia.
Alzheimer Society of B.C. CEO Maria Howard says, “On behalf of the Alzheimer Society of B.C., I would like to congratulate John for his well-deserved appointment to the Order of British Columbia yesterday. While he has been honoured for his musical achievements, John has proved that his voice is equally compelling when speaking to the dementia journey and we are grateful for his support. ”
John was diagnosed with early onset dementia at 51 and has since spoken widely about his experience living with the disease. By coming forward publicly with his diagnosis, John is helping to dispel stigma surrounding the disease. John has also been gracious enough to volunteer his signing voice at various Alzheimer Society events across the country.
To learn more about John’s experience with dementia and see him perform on screen, you can watch the documentary Spirit Unforgettable, currently available on the Movie Network and HBO.
