Lead or join an Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer’s planning committee
We are looking for committed volunteers to lead or join our 2018 Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer’s organizing committees. The event is the country’s biggest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and will take place on Sunday, May 6. Funds raised will stay in B.C. and will support programs and services within the community, as well as enabling research into the causes and cure of the disease.
It’s estimated that 70,000 British Columbians live with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia and that number is growing. The Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s ultimate vision is a world without dementia. Until that vision can be achieved, our more immediate vision is of a world where people living with dementia are welcomed, acknowledged and included – a dementia-friendly society.
“Becoming a Walk chair is a great opportunity for a dedicated and collaborative individual to lead a team of like-minded individuals in order to make a real difference in the lives of people affected by the disease,” says Angie Kok, Manager of Resource Development at the Alzheimer Society of B.C. “Our team of volunteers are enthusiastic, caring and inspiring. Together, we share laughs, implement ideas, and work through challenges to plan a successful Walk.”
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. provides in-depth training, resources and ongoing support to ensure committee leaders have the best event experience possible.
Candidates for the chair position should have good organizational skills, be enthusiastic and community-minded. The Walk chair is responsible for mobilizing and inspiring existing committee volunteers; recruiting and supporting new committee members; dividing up the work; and ensuring the team is successful at promoting the Walk locally and to recruit participants. They will work closely with Alzheimer Society of B.C. staff to create an amazing event.
Locations currently seeking Walk chairs for are: Abbotsford, Cowichan Valley, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Prince George (co-chair), Richmond (co-chair) and Vernon.
Other volunteers may also be needed to serve on the Walk committee. If you are interested, or would like more information, contact Stacy Ashton at email@example.com or 604-742-4937.
